2017 Leadership Conference Recap 11-20-2017

This year’s Management Society Conference, help on September 28th and 29th was a success! We loved being together to celebrate 40 years of the Management Society. We sincerely thank all of those who participated in making the conference happen and for all those who attended.

Chapter leaders who attended were empowered to better define their local purpose and audience as well as plan for growth and success.  Adrian Gostick of The Culture Works inspired us, with training from his book “What Motivates Me.” Logan Wilkes came to our conference again this year from Corporate Alliance to demonstrate “power drills” and “critical questions” sessions. Chapter leaders were able to connect with one another, bring their personal questions to the table, and receive advice from other chapters. We had more breakout sessions this year than ever before, with topics centered on Leveraging the Power of Connection, Building an Enduring Chapter, and Building BYUMS 2.0 for the Next Generation. Rixa Oman presented on “The Power of Why” and CEO’s Jeffrey Shaw, Kurt Flygare, and Michael Birch participated in a panel of ethics.

We heard from Dean Lee Perry on the first day of the conference, he gave a report on the Marriott School and announced some changes coming to the Management Society in the future. Detailed information about these changes will be available early in 2018.   The highlight of the conference was the 40th Anniversary Celebration dinner.  We awarded Mark Romney the Lowell Benson Lifetime Service award and looked back at BYU Management Society accomplishments over the past 40 years. The night ended with a special keynote address from Elder Merrill J. Bateman, founder of the Management Society.

Whether it was for chapter growth and development or personal/professional growth and development, this year’s conference met and exceeded expectations. We hope that all who attended will come back next year and those who could not make it will consider attending the 2018 conference.
